Dousman, Wisconsin is a village located in Waukesha County in the southeastern part of the state. Its 2000 population was 1,584. Just a short drive from Milwaukee's western suburbs, Dousman is an increasingly popular bedroom "exurb" community surrounded by similarly small villages and towns that are constantly alive with commerce, outdoor sports and historical delights.

The settlement at what is now Dousman occurred early in the development of the Wisconsin Territory. Talbot Dousman and Abraham Hardell were the driving forces behind the creation of Dousman. The settlement, originally called Dousman Station, was founded in 1817 and became a thriving railroad depot with a Main Street consisting of many different businesses over the 80-year period that the Chicago and North Western Railroad came through town. A hotel, a saloon, a blacksmith shop and a general store were among the first to serve village residents and weary travelers.

A popular pastime for Dousman residents - as well as many others from throughout the area and points beyond - is the Glacial Drumlin Trail, a 47-mile trail developed in 1986 along an abandoned railroad. The trail runs between the City of Waukesha to the east and the Village of Cottage Grove to the west. The trail is easily accessible from Main Street in downtown Dousman and is open year round. Bicyclists, hikers, joggers, and roller blades in the summer and snowmobilers in the winter enjoy the trail. The accompanying State Forest offers year-round entertainment with 21,000 acres of glacial trails and lakes. Hiking, jogging, swimming, biking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, camping plus much more. Finally, located just off of Hwy C in the nearby Town of Delafield, Lapham Peak State Park offers a variety of activities including a beautiful view from the 45' observation tower. Winding trails through the wooded hills and open meadows are great for year round activities

Another fanciful and thoroughly fascinating local tour is located 11 miles south of Dousman off Hwy 67 in Eagle, Wisconsin. Old World Wisconsin is a large outdoor "living museum" portraying immigrant farm and village life as it was in the days of Wisconsin's ethnic pioneers. Situated on 576 acres with 65 original historic structures in their natural surroundings, residents and their guests and visitors have a wonderful time while learning about Wisconsin's ethnic roots. And the walk from one ethnic village to another is at the same time invigorating and relaxing. Old World Wisconsin has a large enough "campus" that on most days no motors can be heard as you and your family travel through the park gathering the same sense of serenity among raw, harsh nature as did those brave European families that paved the way. The museum offers many special events and is open throughout the summer months (May - October).

Today's Dousman, Wisconsin is a potpourri of village quaintness, historical delights, active outdoors living and wide open spaces.
